Penrith Referees introduce their first Indigenous Jersey

INDIGENOUS ROUND!

For the first time in Association history with the help of Brooke Toli from Kookaburra Graphics we have created our first ever indigenous jersey that our members will be wearing this weekend at Magic Round

The various art on the jersey has many meanings to our game which include,

A meeting place where referees and rugby league committees unite in shared respect and passion for the game,

Totems which represent the cultural connections of some referees in the association,

The surrounding mountains of Penrith which hold deep cultural and spiritual significance to the elders past, present and future

The Nepean river which is the primary waterway of the Penrith region

And the journey lines which is the path that one takes through life with each colour representing the clubs within our district

We also asked Karalee Clarke one of our younger members what this round meant to her and this is her response , “ As a proud Yuin girl, Indigenous Round is more than just a game, it’s a celebration of who I am, where I come from, and the strength of my ancestors. It’s a time where our stories, culture, and identity are front and centre, not just in sport, but in the hearts of everyone watching.

I also love how that indigenous round brings all communities together to celebrate. Indigenous Round gives me hope. Hope that the next generation of young mob will grow up knowing that their culture is powerful and that their voices matter. When I see players wearing jerseys designed by our people, walking out with our flags, and paying respect to Country, I feel pride. Pride in being Yuin. Pride in being Aboriginal. Pride in our past, present, and future”.

Thank you to Brooke for creating a great design for our jerseys for such an important and significant round!
