Relay For Life

RELAY FOR LIFE

On the 27th of May Penrith Referees attended the annual Relay for Life as per we have done previous years, the event is to raise awareness for Cancer Council and Cancer research. Their ongoing work around this event and others throughout the year is admirable and certainly needed as many suffer from cancer each year and any donations and awareness is helpful and necessary.

This year we had a section on the track where we set up our tent and had fun games like pass the ball challenges as well as ‘most push ups in a minute’ or ‘longest plank hold’ all the raise donations. We also had a raffle for a NSW Blues Origin jersey that people could buy raffle tickets for with a chance of winning at the end of the day, not only that but we had many prizes to give out for runners up of the raffle. All donations went to the event organisers.

We had many young Development Squad members attend during the day around their appointments for the weekend and contribute ‘laps’ around the set out track. We didn’t quite reach our goal of 1000 laps but everyone who attended, Development Squad or not walked around the track to show their support and contribution to our overall total.

Anyone who attended this event can tell you it was an enjoyable, fun experience to socialize with other referees, meet new people supporting the same cause or even just trying to pass a football through a hole in the spare time.
