Right Place, Right Time - Opportunity Knocks...

Congratulations to Rohan Best, who will officiate in his first Senior International Fixture when he officiates in the World Cup Qualifier between the USA and South Africa on October 13.

Rohan, while on holidays in America, had planned to visit the USA Referees and present them with a Penrith Referees, Watts Commercial Furniture Jersey as a sign of the universal brotherhood of the Rugby League Officials fraternity. On his arrival, he was asked to be a touch judge in this very important and prestigious fixture.

We wish Rohan all the best, and trust that he enjoys this experience.

CMO Course

The Association has been granted the opportunity to conduct our own Level One CMO (Coaching of Match Officials) Course to be held in January 2012. This is a great opportunity to enable our Appointments Board, Advisory Panel, Senior Mentors and A grade, Junior Rep and Grade Referees to gain valuable training in the delivery of coaching to the District’s Referee’s.

The Referees Coordinator for 2012, Luke Evans, has expressed his desire that all Appointments Board and Advisory Panel be CMO Qualified if possible.

If you have held an NRAS Qualification of Level Two or above for two or more years, I would encourage you to apply for this course. We have committed to a minimum number of attendees for the course to be viable, and for the continued improvement of match day assessment of our match officials, we would like to have as many people as we can attend this course. The Association will cover the all costs of the course, so all you have to do is turn up and participate. Your attendance at the course will be for your own benefit, and for the benefit of all Association members.

The date for the course will be both days of 21^st and 22^nd January 2012, tentatively booked for Penrith RSL Club. The cost for members will be nil. Please email me (president@penrithreferees.com.au) for an application form and return it by post to PO Box 106, Blacktown, 2148, or scan and email to me at president@penrithreferees.com.au, by Friday 14^th October to ensure that we can operate this course for the benefit of our young referees.

Grand Final Appointments

Evey Match Official, indeed anybody involved in Rugby League, would love to be involved in the event that is NRL Grand Final Day, the first Sunday in October, at ANZ Stadium.

This Association is proud of our members who competed this year during the finals' series of each of the competitions, with Dave Ryan, Jay Farlow, Lawrence McDonald, Rickey McFarlane, John Woods and Grant Atkins, Daniel Oldofrd all performing well during the qualifying stages. John Woods and Peter Sciberras had also officiated in the NSWRL Bundy Cup Grand Final, and Phil Haines and Russell Turner were appointed as stand-by officials to NRL Finals Series Matches.

Congratulations to Rickey McFarlane, who was appointed to the Stand-By Touch Judge role for the NRL Telstra Premiership Grand Final, and cemented his place amongst the top touch judges in the game. Congratulations also to Jay Farlow who officiated as an In-Goal Official for the NSW Cup Grand Final. NRL Touch Judge Dave Ryan was also appointed as the Stand-by Touch Judge for this fixture.

The Association is extremely proud of the efforts of these members. We hope you enjoyed the experience that is NRL Grand Final Day, and know that there are greater rewards to come.

NRL Debuts

Congratulations to Grant Atkins and Dave Ryan who will make their NRL Debuts this weekend.

Grant will referee his first NRL Match on Friday Night at Parramatta Stadium in the Eels v Roosters match. In a fitting coincidence, his dad Graham, played first grade for both clubs, and will present Grants jersey before the game.

Dave will make his NRL Debut as a touch judge in Canberra on Saturday night in the Raiders v Panthers match.

Police Legacy Challenge Cup

The "Mate Against Mate" concept is not confined to State-of-Origin. Our members are supporting the NSW Police Legacy by providing match officials to the Police Rugby League Cup Challenge.

Support our referees and our boys and girls in blue by dropping in during the day.

Wednesday 6th July at St Mary's Stadium. Gates open 9am for a gold coin donation.

Fun for the kids too, and it is rumored that the Challenge Cup will be delivered in spectacular fashion between 3pm and 3:30pm.
